Leeches and Smelts
« on: June 30, 2012, 08:22:04 PM »
Was just wondering where most guys buy their bait at? Just going to start trying it out and was wondering the best places in central Alberta to pick them up?

Any info and/or suggestions would be great.

Thanks in advance!

I've trapped my own leaches using a minnow trap and bait (meat, bread, whatever).  I like to buy frozen minnows, squid, etc from grocery stores if possible. Superstore has been a good source.

Darcy , you should be able to get what you need in Nipawin when you get there. I can call my Big Bro and get the scoop from him if you want. I was watching a Vid he posted on facebook of one of the Walleye they caught on the weekend. He has been living there for about 5 yrs now and he has the lake and river into the lake figured out pretty good.

My wife used to work on the burns and plastic unit in Calgary they still use leaches for frost bite.  I have a phobia of leaches can’t touch them or be around them.
I believe Wolverine in red deer has  large bags of them.  Give Jaime a call there 403 347 0220
