So get this....
« on: June 12, 2012, 05:24:58 PM »
I actually get paid to watch birds....
So now i have a chance to upgrade to a better set of binoculars over my bushnells.
I have been looking at the Vortex talon hd binoculars.
I'll be heading to Wholesale sports to have a look at what they have tomorrow when I get back from the field (I'm in Saskatchewan and wow there are some cranker mulies and antelope out here).
Anyways does anyone have these? what do you think of them?

Sorry i have been silent as of late im workign some crazy hours out here.

It's funny,
I went to school for a bachelors of science focusing on reclamation. Well 3 years later I'm counting bird populations in southern Saskatchewan.
So to answer your question.... I don't even know how I ended up with this job.

Well I think it is a cool job...What species are you counting at the moment?

Well we are required to document every species of wildlife we come across. This leads to about 150+ birds, but really only about 40 show up each day. Burrowing owls are a big one, while ferruginous hawks are also very important. I would have to say a tree swallow, or a lark bunting are the highlights of the day for me. Lark buntings remind me of my brother Jesse. He is two years younger then me and carries himself like a 40 year old man. They walk around with their chest pressed right out and without hesitating for a second they enter into combat with each other.(little b@st@rds, but proud bAst@rds) the tree swallow is the neatest bird to watch in flight. Those rare moments when we are in a stand of trees always lead to a great air show. The can turn on a dime and still get 9 cents change.

I'll be following JustinC's advice and grabbing myself the vortex viper HD 10x42.

regards,
Adam

I just picked up a set of Bushnell Legends HD's they are 8x42. Now before I get hammered about buying the Bushnells, I went to get Leopolds, and I asked the guy just to let me look through the Bushnells to compare. Bushnells were $300, the Leopolds were $600, and after comparing, I might have saw a $25 difference in quality, why spend the money. I am actually really impressed with the Bushnells for the price.

Had a buddy buy a new pair of Redfields last fall and I was really suprised how clear and bright the pair he picked up were. Deffinatly seemed like good glass for a good price.
I hunt sheep to see over the next mountain not to measure the next trophy!
