2011 Mule Deer
« on: October 23, 2011, 08:41:59 PM »
Well the antlered mule deer season has come to an end for me with the harvest of this buck on the weekend.  I started bowhunting in 1995 just so I had an annual access to these bucks.  It is my favourite species to chase with the bow so I am extremely happy when success comes my way.  Anyway, I had been doing some scouting around on the Milk River ridge and was about to head back to the vehicle when I seen this guy bedded about 400 yards away.  After a quick stalk (gotta love that southern alberta wind for scent and sound control) I was within 20 yards and ready to wait him out for a shot.  AFter about an hour, he finally stood up and stared at me for about 5 minutes before starting to turn.  As I drew the bow he trotted out an extra 10 yards before stopping.  The Ross Crave, Darkhorse Arrows and Rage broadheads had him on the ground in about 10 seconds after an 80 yard dash.

the pic doesn't show it, but when I saw the bases on this buck (he had tonnes of little stickers) I had to shoot him. ;)
