2013 AF&GA Conference in RedDeer
« on: February 21, 2013, 09:19:41 AM »

It starts today (Feb 20)
I'm off to RedDeer to the conference to get informed, educated and entertained.  Our club can send 3 voting delegates to participate and we are sending 3.

I don't agree with all the things AF&GA has done but I do think it is the best Hunter&Angler organization in Alberta and does more to represent Alberta sportsmen than any other.

If you are going, have a great time and maybe we will bump into each other.  If you are not, you may want to think about getting involved with AF&GA and you may get to go next year.

When you go to Conference do you get some sort of patch or medal so people can recognize how awesome you are, or do we just have to rely on you telling us?

The AF&GA is the biggest hunter angler organization in Alberta.  What goes on at their confreence often has significant impacts on hunting and fishing.  (Membership has grown from around 18,000 two years ago to aropund 24,000 this year)

I will tell the members here about some of the things going on here.  If you are not interested that is fine with me.

Are you confusing the actions of a few people with the actions of a large organization?

So do you have a "voice for conservation"?

Hi deerman, any mention on wait times for new Alberta residence in the resolutions similar to what BC and the other Provinces have.

The actions of a few Allways represent the many.

No "proposed changes" from Fish & Wildlife.  And no resolutions from AF&GA concerning this.

Sounds like a definition of an attitude most civilized people avoid.

So because I want nothing to do with F&G I am not civilized?

AFGA has some fantastic people involved.

Trouble is they also have some dimwits.

They need a overhaul - get rid of the guys that wear more than one hat, and actually have the best interest of the wildlife resource at heart - not what they can get from it.

I think I remember you Deerman - are you/have you asked for any secret ballots at this conference?

Did you see the part I quoted?

"The actions of a few Allways represent the many."

That is the part that makes you sound "prejudice"and less that civilized.

Lots of people have asked for a secret ballot on votes on resolutions at conference.  It is in the policy of the club that anyone can.

Yes a president of a club represents the members of the club.

And here I am arguing with a guy that started a thread on Indian jokes I am out!

I am well aware of that. I have been to Conference before and belong to many F&G clubs and other conservation clubs. I was just wondering if I was supposed to tell people about it or not. ;)

:)  I reckon when you see something you think is good and worthwhile you should tell others about it so they can get involved as well.

A lot of people come on here with good ideas to make good changes to hunting or fishing regulations or management.

Like a voice crying out in the wilderness there is not much chance of effecting change by speaking up on here.

But if you join a AF&GA affiliated club you can get into the resolution prossess and maybe get action.

As well I imagine a lot of non-member sportsmen would like to see what AF&GA is doing cause it often effects all sportsmen.

I have been the Resolutions Chair for Zone three and with elections in the spring (April) meeting I may be again.  I am always on the look out for good ideas for resolutions to submit from our club or the zone.  On forums like this I sometimes get good ideas.
