A great 2011 Goat Hunt
« on: September 06, 2011, 10:03:48 PM »
Well I am now back in Alberta and had a great hunt in BC. We had allot of diversity in weather and other hunters but we got through it. I had to come out a couple days early but the boys were still hunting sheep for a couple days. The rams were tough to find. We did see 60 head of sheep in the area we were hunting but at the time I left we had only saw 2 rams both of which were to small.
We ended up hunting an area that none of us had even been in and new very little about, but we trudged forth and had a good time. Still waiting for the call from the boys when they get back to service to see how the last few days so hoping to see some sheep in their pics.

My goat hunt wasnt long but was a blast. I scouted for a few days up their alone and found many goats. All but 1 were pretty young and all around 8" or less. I found my goat the day the boys got up there and we went in and got it. I stalked it alone to try and up my chances and have the boys spot and signal from bellow. I was thinking of turning it down as I wasnt looking at bringing anything but a billy home. But with all the other goats I saw beining young I decided to take this old 9" nanny. She is well past her reproducing years and to me was a great goat to take.
Most of the pics didnt turn out due to a huge rain storm that seemed to start the second my Customgunworx .280AI sounded. And also darkness was fast upon us even before the boys got up the hill. The electronics didnt fair well but I did get a couple pics and some video of the hunt which ill try and post one day. Any ways hope you like the pics of the trip and the couple of my trophy.

Since I came home on the long weekend I had to leave my goat in BC until it could be registered. I went today and picked it up in Golden and registered it in Radium. I figured it was close to 10yrs old but the rings were so close at the base it was really hard to tell. But after looking it over with the register for a good deal of time and using a good magnifying glass we came to the conclusion after counting the rings many many times that the Nanny I shot is actually 13. Im pretty happy with that as it is a very very old goat and is a perfect goat to harvest!

very cool darcy.  i think mountan goats are a very pretty mount.....not so much for the horns as the brilliant coats they carry.
opinions are like sphincters......everyone has one, and they all stink!

Would deffinatly do it again! Was alott of fun. Sucked that we couldnt get into our intended sheep area but there was another truck parked there that morning. There is a lake a short hike in and they may have been there or day hunting but we didnt wanna bother them so we headed to a different spot.

The boys called and they saw one more ram. It was 7 and just shy of the nose. Sounds like they had a great trip anyways.
