New Blind!
« on: August 15, 2011, 03:14:02 PM »
Got this brilliant idea last year but it ended up to cost me quite a bit.  I have a big Marsh that is unbelievable for birds.  Even when spooked off of it they come back after a couple days.  Mostly widgeon, gadwall. specks and Canadas using it.  We hunted it enough to know if we had proper blinds that we could smash them real good.

One of the problems I had is that most of my hunters are older and not use to running around in mud so I bought an Argo to swim them out to the blinds.  It will make things so nice.
I also bought 6 dozen extra floater duck decoys, 12 speck floaters and a dozen Canada floaters.  How's that for a spread!!

Here are some of the blinds I made up.  Thanks to one of the guys on here for helping me out with getting the barrels for the floating blinds.  Also thanks to Drake and another couple friends of mine for helping me build the things as well.

Got to love it when a plan comes together.  Should help kill me a few birds.

Very Nice!!  Let me know how the live plants hold up over time.  I have often worried that the live vegetation would wilt over time and lose the real look.  NOt sure if that is an issue for the birds or not but would like to know what your experience ends up being.

thanks

I think you will most likely be spending some time in it for sure.

Weste.  I thought the same thing but I think for birds it will not be a problem.  The weeds out there are all different colors and later in the season they may all be brown anyways.  There are also a lot of man made 10yard by 10 yard islands and they have vegetation that turns brown.  They look out of sorts out in the marsh but the birds don't have a problem with them.  I have my fingers crossed that this works well.  I think it will and it could save me a lot of hassle of finding shoots.  I figure if it works out I want to hunt it at least once in every 3 days for a good month and a half.  We will see what happens.

Sounds like it will work well.  With it being there for a few weeks before the season opens, the birds will become accustomed to it anyway.  Keep us posted on the success stories!!

I get back from the sheep hunt Sept 1 and plan on opening camp on the 2nd and most likely will be hunting it a time or 2 before hunters come a few days later.

Are these just west of camp?
If you open your mouth without thinking too often, you can expect to taste some toe-jam.
