Sheep Gear for 2011
« on: May 30, 2011, 07:32:27 AM »
What's everyone running for new gear this year for sheep? I'm running some new Kuiu attack pants and guide jacket, and after 8 years or so and 3 successful sheep hunts, I replaced my old boots with some new Meindl Alaska Hunter boots. No other changes to my kit that I foresee, other than some additional tylenol to deal with my ageing joints :o.

No new gear for me this year but I am utilizing gear that I haven't before LOL
This year I am taking My Horses and my pack mules. This will save me alot of miles.

So far my equipmet hasn't let me down so nothing new this year unless my old pack craters between now and the beginning of the season. Always wanted to see one of those Barney's external frame units. Some day I'll break down and spend some money on new binos but for now status quo.

I'm with you Reaper anyone that brings their own drugs and whiskey and is decidely slower than I am is welcome in camp.

But Reaper it sounds like you and JC should hook up sounds like you could share ammo.

From the viewing of all the previous posts it is easy to see how much of a sickness this sheep hunting thing is.
I concede that I too am a member of this demented club:

So far this year I have purchased several items from the new KUIU line of clothing, a new MSR stove, new Lowa boots, Vortex 2X doubler for the binos and North Face down jacket.

Of course there is still a couple of items nagging me and probably I will cave under the  tremendous self inflicted pressure at some point :'(

Going to try out the KUIU line up this year. Attack pant, guide jacket, merino base layer, ICON 6000 pack.  Breaking a new horse, new pack saddle and boxes. Swapped out my leupold tripod, saved a couple ounces there. 14 day trip coming up, can't wait.

I might pick up one new saddle horse. Otherwise I'm all set. I still have ram blood in my pack from last fall so I am on wrangler duty this year. Looking forward to it!!

I think Reaper needs to bring Ritalin - maybe then I could keep up.....

And I will bring a set of good ear plugs as my new gear

It's my second year sheep hunting tbis year, new stuff for this year or upgrading. Some of this stuff will be use for elk and deer season this year.

Kuiu gloves
North Face cat's meow sleeping bag
Leupold switch power bino, 10/17 power
Meopta spotting scope APO
outdoor edge knife saw combo, really like it
need a new camera so I got a sony H70
also I'll get some trail cam after my sheep hunt
and few other minor gear for the sheep hunt, after all this I'm pretty much set on the major gear for all my hunting for the next years to come.

It's an expensive year, a house, optics plus all the other gear.  So far 2011 is a good one I'm just hoping hunting season will be as good!!!

I didnt think I was going to spend much this year, but after trying to fine tune a few things I actually ended up spending more than most years!!!  I've got a BC goat hunt coming up this year and wanted to be prepared.  Sold a few items to cover some of the costs and picked up some OT to take care of the rest!

Mystery Ranch 6500 w/ Rip Zips
Mystery Ranch Longbow
Lowa Tibet GTX
SPOT Messenger
Few more Sitka items (Jetstream, gloves, Bino cover, gaiters)
Jetboil SOL Ti (on the way)
Remington 7 in 7SAUM w/ new scope

Think thats the bulk of it, and hopefully will try and make next year a 'light' year on the gear department!!
