Shooter?
« on: August 05, 2013, 11:07:53 PM »
Here's a buck I call "Chronic", he's a 5 year old Primal addict I've been watching the last 3 years and has made a pretty big jump this year, was about 140" last year...with still a couple more weeks growing season left any guesses what he's gonna score this year? How many of you would take him as an archery buck this year? Or let him walk?

The beauty is in the beholder,,,so to speak.. If its a deer you would want then by all means it's a shooter..

Always hard to tell, deer in velvet,, but I would say the other two have it guessed pretty close..

Not a bad buck, at 5 it may be all he does so I would set him for a new archer or young hunter if he wasn't what I was looking for.  I have a 12 year old daughter itching for her first bow kill!!   ;D ;D ;D

LOL.  I guess but I was referring to a buck if it wasn't the one I wanted.  I tried to get a buck for a friend of mine last year that would have been his first deer and his first bowkill.  Got him in twice to under 30 yards but didn't get a shot.  I ended up shooting the buck in later October and he ended up grossing 195".  So yes I would do that for a first time hunter or bowhunter.

I just have a blast introducing people to the sport!!

Setting up a friend on 195" deer that you've scouted and patterned is very commendable!

Great looking buck!  He looks 160ish gross to me.  We have had a few bucks that were around this size as 4-5-6 year olds and then turned into 180 class deer as 7-8 year olds.  With that much history, I would likely give him another year or two.  I have a real hard time shooting bucks once I get a few years of history with them until I am sure they are maxed out.  That's just me though, no question that is a beautiful buck!  Hope he stays on the cams for you all fall.

Here is the buck.  I actually thought the buck would only gross in the 170's so there was definitely a mistake on my part.  LOL  Anyway, I will continue to help him this fall.  Hopefully we get him a buck with his bow.  I did help him get his first whitetail with a rifle later in the year.
