Youngest Archey Sheep Slam Accomplished!!!
« on: April 07, 2012, 10:50:28 AM »
Just got word that Adam Foss has just became the youngest person to take the 4 north american mountain sheep with Archery tackle this morning. Him and his Dad Tom( anyone that knows sheep has heard of Tom) both harvested Desert rams within an hour of each other and they are now hunting to get his brother Cam a ram.

When you get your ram drinks are on me in Billy Bobs this time Cam!!!

Not huge on records but this family is what sheep hunters are! They live and dream hunting sheep!

Congrats guys! Job well done!

Awesome! Well done Adam. They sure are a family of successful, hardcore archery hunters. Well done, and good luck to Cam. I really enjoyed the article on "Team Foss" in the recent WSF magazine.

I've never hunted with them nope. Just met Cam a few times and had a few drinks together and Bumped into Tom at a few functions. I BS and stuff with Adam on Facebook about hunting and gear. That's my association with them. We have a ton of mutual friends and some of my good friends have guided them on past hunts.

Nice to see the young guys killing sheep.  It would be cool if he had it on tape.
I wonder if I have some sort of record killing 8 rams before I was 33 years old!  Maybe I will buy myself a pat on the back ;D

Hard to tell world wide sheep but if anyone knows someone with more than 7 bighorns by the age 33 then i would like to know.

Being 24 and having a slam especially with a bow is amazing.  It would have been nice to have that kind of money to be able to do it.  A very lucky young man and also to have a family that is just as dedicated is awesome as well.  Let us know when the videos come out if they do

Had a big response to this but wont take this forum to that level. Ill give you the pat on the back your looking for and call it good. Just remember the big difference with you and most sheep hunters is how easily one pulls the trigger. I know a pile of guys that would be in the same statistics as you but they look at bighorns different so they didnt pull the trigger. So congrates on your high numbers and glad it makes you feel on the upper level!

And sorry as this is a super sore spot in my mind so ill just back out now.

ill toss out a congrats nube.  no way i wanna try to play catch up with numbers.  sheep are awful good eating, but i wont kill another unless its something special.  there are a lot of guys out there that have never killed one and id kinda rather see someone who really wants one get it over taking another small one myself.  just me though....

So I guess I am only allowed to shoot a couple of them or I look bad now or is it that they should all be 13 year old rams?  You talk like I have never passed up a legal ram before either.  You also have to notice to kill 7 rams is 14 years worth of hunting with the wait and I started when I was 14.  At a young age you don't really think of how big a ram is or not and if you find a legal one it is all good to go.  I never thought in my teenage years that a ram was really that special I shouldn't be pulling the trigger either.  If you've also noticed I have helped more people kill rams that I have myself and especially the last few years.  Maybe I finally have got to that point now that I realise I don't need another one unless it is big but the past is the past.  I am also sorry you think I am bragging about it but to me it seems like an accomplishment as I don't know anyone else out there that has done anything like that and that is why I asked if anyone knew anyone.  Guess I will have to just shoot 190" rams now or is that going to be an issue as well? ::)

Like I said Nube people think of it different. I dont agree with it at all and I know many that feel the same.
As far as persons age  that you mention is a non factor as I had 2 rams dead by roughly the same age you had two and new exactly what kind of trophy bighorn sheep were. My mentors had always told me to be gratful for having bighorns to hunt and they are to apitamy of big game animals. And from  that point in my hunting career I knew what bighorn sheep ment to me and I vowed at that early age, the same day I shot my second ram to only shoot another ram if it was a true dream specimen.
Oh and trust me I know how many years that killing 8 rams entails in hunting! Does having 8 rams from them years mean more than not having them? I guess to some!  Ive been sheep hunting every year for the last 23yrs since I was old enough to buy my first sheep tag and trust me my carrer encompases as many or more days in the field so does having only 2 rams lower that any? Not to me at all. And could have easily been a way higher number as I have never had a year that I havent had the oppertunity to harvest a ram. But to me since that second ram the days in the field have ment far more than the pulling of the trigger on just another ram. Sheep in my mind deserve more than to be just another notch on the belt!

Anyways im sure you disagree and im sure others as well but your post in this thread did look like someone reaching for reconition!!

Anyways let the rants go but Sheep arent whitetails and "TO ME" should be in higher regard then just to be taken because they are legal and you have a tag, evey time you have a tag! And yes Nube I had this same philosiphy when I was a teenager!

Sorry for the negative posts!

That would be why I used "my opinion" and  "people think different" in my post Justin.

I just pray that more guys dont all get the notion that they should shoot a ram every year they are elidgable!

You got your opinion sheepguide.  It's not all about the numbers for me and I don't think you will ever understand my points as well.  Each ram I have killed has a story on their own and to me mean a lot.  I have said it before that everyone is special no matter the size.  My smallest is the most favorite and my book ram is the least and easiest ram I have.  I will kill more of them and it will not have anything to do with the size of them and I am not going to feel bad for killing more.

And thanks to those that have PM'ed me.  It means a lot and I am thankfull for your thoughts.

Well Nube if we all agree'ed it would be a pretty dull world. And glad each ram means a lot to you. I didn't doubt they did.
You look at it different as you look at you taking 8 rams. I look at it that if everyone shot a ram every couple years our sheep would be in trouble! Good thing on average only 20% are taking multiple rams.

Well Darcy you have shot your 2 rams so why do you hunt sheep with your own tag anymore if what you say is true?  Your afraid of taking a ram away from someone else and being too greedy.  I don't get that.  If someone else can't kill a ram it isn't my fault.  I am not going to feel bad for others that can't find one.  They are not that hard to find if you know what's going on.  Problem is that most guys have a hard time figureing it out not that there is a lack of legal rams.  Either way I am not going to debate your ethics on it.  It does nobody any good and in the end I will kill more rams if I find the one I want to shoot or if I just even feel like it because of the situation I am in and enjoy the experience.
For the record as well my rams age 13.5,  9.5 ,9.5,  8.5,  5.5,  5.5,  4.5 for those that have asked me. 3 of them are willmore rams.

caught what you said before the edit darcy.....and i say no way!  no question there are some guys out there that pass legals looking for something great, but a lot of guys just talk a good game.  one thing ive seen a bunch of on these hunting forums over the years is that anyone can talk a big, but only a handful can back it up.  ive seen a whack of guys claiming to be passing small rams, yet inevitably they show up with a pic of a squeaker.  i always offer a congrats, but i have a good memory of the stories they told.  usually its simply they cant find a legal, or even when they do they cant decide if its legal or not.  now if you arent sure, i am a firm believer in letting them walk, but to tell the world how you passed waiting for a hog is pure bovine feces.

two in particular stand out.  one guy obviously couldnt tell and shot the very ram he passed the year before.  that ram gained about 3/4 of an inch in length and maybe 3 inches total score.  no doubt in my mind he would have shot it the year before if he was sure of legal.  another was a book ram.  heavy brooming made the legth pretty sketchy, but he was legal and someone else killed him.  both hunters claim to be passing little guys the whole time, but the truth seems obvious to me.....not all, but most guys just cant find them.

opinions are like sphincters......everyone has one, and they all stink!
