In the ten percent are the guys that just buy everyday cause they can. Heck look at the guys who shot the big ram in 402 elkhunting. They have no clue at all about sheephunting still. The 25% may be a little low but there are lots that go out once or twice and that is it. You know that is true.  When it come to people not having a clue. Yes that number is high as it is for any hunting(weekend warriors).

Still no idea eh! What kindve ass hole are you that thinks you know all about me. Next time you wanna shoot another squeaker ram lets through the packs on and I'll hike your lazy old man ass off!

Not everybody hunts sheep in your neck of the woods.  408 and 406 and 404 has high tag numbers and all south of there is general for elk.  Also number of people in the south is quite high so I think the south as that is were I am is more true to my comments.  I don't hunt up your way so I can't say what is or isn't up there.  Also wilmore area is general for elk as well.   Just saying.

Im not generalizing to my area and yes maybe in some zones it is the case but the areas you mention has alot lower Sheephunter per/zone for the total season than many other areas. Sheep hunting is basicly classed in three area. South of the Bow. North of The Bow to highway 16. And the Willmore/Torrens. Of them three one area accounts for more sheep population, sheep killed and sheep hunters per season than the other two put together. So percentage wise the zones you talk of may have a good number of elk hunters with a sheep tag but as a percentage through out all SMA's that number will be very low.

Sorry bud I did not mean that as I typed it. But that was as luck of a ram as they come.  That is all I ment by that. I know you have learned lots since then. Also trust me when I say you ain't the only elk hunter to kill a ram in that zone by luck.

Also Darcy.  I found my ram off of the road. It ended up 2 miles from we're I found it on the road.  Heck I never even shot it till the next day and it was 1.2 miles off the road.  So what. Your rams better than mine cause of were I got mine???

Ok.  Just pisses me off that we're still catching flack for that. I know it was our first time but we did alot of work to put ourselves in the right place. If wed shot a smaller or even just a decent ram everyone would've congratulated and been happy for us, but because we happened to pull out the 52nd biggest ram recorded almost all we get is crap!  Since then all I do is think sheep hunting and can't wait to get back out. In the 2 years since we shot that ram I've spent at least 30 days sheep hunting not a ton  but more than most.

Nope they are equally good but I was prooving that lack of experience and hunting off the road mean nothing on the effort put in to get a sheep!! You were the one implying that the road hunters and weekend warriors were not as dedicated I just used your scenario to show that its not always the case and isnt a good generalization that the guys like yourself arent seeing legal sheep!!

Funny go to the Hummingbird some days and you will see 20 outfits parked at one small staging area horse hunting and another 10 or so quad hunting. Trust me Lots of areas have alot of sheep hunters.
All im saying is just because them guys are in the truck or near the truck doesnt mean they arent seeing rams or arent good hunters.

I think you would be suprised how many good sheephunters are out there looking for a big ram.I know of 10 or 15 guys that guide for sheep full time and when done their seasons in the north come home and chase bighorns everyyear. Thats just the ones I know and doesnt incude the local guys that put in a couple weeks each year looking for a sheep that is a cranker. Like I said with just the guys I know the number you think dont work.

Maybe your right but I could tell you of at least 40-50 guys that I know of in my community alone  that hunt sheep hard every year and dedicate a week or two+ every year for it. Im just pretty sure that there are more than double that many  guys that know sheephunting in Alberta actually that isnt even a fathomable number in my eyes. 100 guys in the most renown place to hunt bighorns in the world! Come on now!
And as far as looking at forums well that is a very small portion of our hunting community and I would never try and compare sheep hunting to deer hunting.

not sure what has you all bitchy today darcy, but im gonna have to pass on an argument.  you think near enough everyone passes legal sheep and i think 10% would be more realistic.  you are right about one thing for sure.....the real number will never be known.  that alone makes it not worth an argument.  the only thing we do know for sure is a lot of hunters lie their arses off about where they go and what they see....... ;)
opinions are like sphincters......everyone has one, and they all stink!

Not bitchy at all. Having a great day!!!

And I dont think no where near all guys turn rams down but if only 388 guys of the 2200 tag holders are seeing legal animals as you say in Alberta it seems like we really need to adjust our quality of hunting!! And your right we will never actuall know but sounds like a shitty place to hunt bighorns if you only have a 10% chance of seeing something legal!

That is true.  So Darcy you know 50 die hards???  I have a real hard time with that number.

I have 8 relatives in my direct family that hunt sheep each year. I know at least 10 locals that have teams that go up the Clearwater and Panther each year into the mountains and are very hard core . I have 6 buddies that we all hunt together on and off each year and they have between them probably a few hundred guided sheep so they have half an idea whats goin on. Thats 24 right there. Not to hard in my community to find that many more that I know if I sat down and started writing down names of guys I have hunted with that go each year or guys I know that hunt each year. And thats just one small hick community!

They got to be able to see them to pass them up.  Last 3 times I have been out and camped at base camp there have been 5-9 guys hunting the same valleys.  I killed the rams and they wondered where the heck they came from when they were there the whole time.  Last year I showed up a few days after the season started after 3 different groups had hunted and gone home.  It took me a bit of work to figure out where the rams were hiding but we came home with 2 rams for my buddies.  It has happened quite a few times.  I would say most guys just can't figure out the hidy holes and that is what it takes.
I even put a couple X's on a map for another guy I know and it took 3 years for him to finally figure it out.  Once he figured it all out he has now shot 3 rams in there with his buddy back to back.  They now have it figured out but he had hunted for 6 years and not seen a legal ram till then.

Yep guess your the man! Guess guys better work harder to see if they can be as great! LOL anyways look forward to seeing them 8 rams lined up in that thread!

Maybe you and Justin could put on  sheep hunting schools and give some lessons as apperently you guys are some of the only elite that see many sheep! Sounds like a pile of guys out there that would be interested or should be at least!

Didn't ask you to pat me on the back Darcy.  Your tone is way off today buddy and your looking like an ass.  I think Bambi may be right in having a bad day or something cause your not acting like yourself today.  If that is true you better go away for the day and pick yourself up man.  Come on.

Not sure why you want to see the pics again.  Not like I haven't posted them before.

I should also state the ram in the top left part of the last picture is not my ram but a buddies of mine that I took out and helped him kill. He has moved out of country for a while.  Just so we are all clear.  I wouldn't want to get blamed for for shooting an extra dink ram or anything like that :o

Come on boys,, its time to let this one rest already. Kudos to the young man on his accomplishments and to all of you on your kills. Remember boys, lets never pass judgment on each other as hunters. Let each do it in their own way for their own reasons. As long as its legal just enjoy it and be gratefully we all have the opportunity to fulfill our dreams what ever it is that makes us dream..

Maybe its you having the bad day! My opinion isnt that of yours so im having a bad day LOL Your theories are flawed and Ive showed in most of them how. How is that having a bad day. Your the one that decided to jump in on a thread congradulating someone else and try and flaunt your 8 rams around well sorry why should I just hang back! You are far from the elite and I hate to say there are alot of guys around with as much or more skill than you guys. You have been strutting on here on how many guys know nothing about sheep hunting and you have everything figured out well ive seen the big rams you take pictures of and claim they are in open areas and you will be looking for then go in a kill two rams that are about as close as anyone would risk calling legal so what have you figured out? Why arent them big rams coming out that you see and talk about? Its obviously not because you turned one down?
As knowledable as you are in sheep hunting you would think you would have enough facts to bash any opinions I have since you doubt my sheep knowledge. Maybe start showing it instead of just saying how many guys cant find sheep!

Great rams looks like you have 6 of your 8 mounted. I only mounted one of mine. Just was curious as I new I hadnt seen pics of 8 rams before just wanted to see all 8 but I still only see the same 6. No worries its just cool looking at pics and helps guys see what legal looks like.

I went out 3 times last year! I found  5 legal rams. I Only wanted to actually try to  shoot 1 out of the 5 !

Here some quick true stats! in 408 this year , out of 6 tags 2 guys didn't go at all, 1 guy gave up 100 yards above the chair lift, 1 guy broke his ankle up there and still hunted until almost the end, 1 guy went out  but never got anything and the last I don't know!

The year before, 3 out of 6 tags weren't purchased!

There are very few hardcore Sheephunters out there. There is a handful of serious guys, a majority hunt sheep and a shwack of greenies out there! The last two being the biggest piece of the pie!

I know a guy who has 3 rams, the smallest being in the low 80's and 2 in the mid to high 90's ! All shot from a 2 track, leaning on the hood of his truck ! Does 3 rams make him a better sheep hunter than most? does sizes of the 3 make him better than most?

Some guys like , every species of hunting in AB, search for quality, some for quantity ,some for adventure , some for quick and easy! We all have our reasons for what, where and why we hunt , I definatley dont agree with alot of peoples way...But if it's within the law what can anyone say !

But 2 accomplished Sheephunters seriously dont need to have a dick measuring contest on here! We all know that both you guys can put a ram on the ground at any time!
